Touched by the Hand of God

Clearly, World Cup fever has gripped the country.

Searching for Hand of God in Wikipedia brings up a decent-sized disambiguous page that includes a link to the infamous Hand of God goal. (I can’t believe I’ve heard of this despite avoiding soccer all my life.) It’s 20 years ago to the month and almost the week, that took place.

Coincidentally #1, on Monday night, before going our separate ways to watch Australia vs Japan, Lawry and I watched a New Order music videos DVD, including the track Touched by the Hand of God, which some people think is a reference to that goal. Wow. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, ex-wife of James Cameron and director of Near Dark. New Order also did that awful World In Motion song for England’s 1990 World Cup Team. That’s also on that DVD.

Coincidentally #2, I bumped into Katie #2 while we were both on lunch breaks.

The Da Vinci Code Talk Advertising Signage

I took this photo today but it’s been up for about a week advertising a talk about The Da Vinci Code that was originally going to be held in St Barnabas.

Personally, I’m sick of the whole Da Vinci Code thing. If it’s archaelogical fiction and doesn’t have Nazis dying in horrible ways, it’s just not interesting.

However, I am tempted to read it after reading this article commenting on how bad the writing is. I’m tempted to buy a cheap copy and a red pen and go through it.

Here’s a photo of the St Barnabas gateway.

St Burnabas

I thought I’d add a new section that records the quirky signs from our church, St Barnabas.

This sign came up about a week after the fire, a couple of days after we started joking about something like this at a Network dinner. Dave thought the “on fire” bit was a bit too retro and cheezy. I love it.

This was the second sign to go up after the fire. The previous one was Eternity. You can see the word “Eternity” coming through the current sign. :-)
